Tournament Pro and Crappie Guide Trent Goss says, “Jenko Afterburner and Paddle Fry
in the spring and summer when the bite gets tough,
I’ll drop down to a
2” Jenko Fry Baby. I
fish 100% Long-Pole
Livescope because
of its sure accura- cy
and ability to hold it on
a crappie’s nose. 1/8 oz Grenada Lake Tackle Company
jig head with the bigger baits or a 1/16 oz for the fin-
icky fish. The line of choice is 8# Gamma Poly Flex on
every lake except Grenada, where I use 10# because of
the size of the fish. In the spring, bright colors are lime
green, chartreuse, orange, and pink. I go to a softer,
more neutral color, grey silver, during the summer. My
three favorite baits are Jenko afterburner in Apple Bot-
tom Pumpkin Spice and Disco.”
Scott Ryals, MCC President and Tournament Professional, says, “My bait of
choice is the Freaky Franks Freaky Worm. At Grenada, I upsize to the Freaky Worm XL.
My colors of choice are the Electric Blue Firetail and the Pearl/Chartreuse Firetail. I pair
the worm with the Freaky Head in 1/16 ounce Jig Head. My favorite technique is Sin-
gle-Pole Livescoping. I mostly drop on the fish. My Ranger is set up with Crappie Brakes,
allowing me total boat control. I’ve tried braid, but I prefer Original Stren in 8#.”
Paula & Michael Nowell, Professional Tournament Anglers, MCC President & Secretary/
Treasurer, says, “We
use Crappie Magnet
Soft Plastics for their
durability. They out-
last most other soft
plastic baits. We’re
primarily Long-Pole
Livescopers. Our
baits of choice are
the Double Cross Jig
Head, with a Slab
Magnet body in Sho-
Nuff, Chartreuse, Spicy Mustard, Mermaid, and White/Blue/Silver Flake. We’ve caught
12 to 15 fish on a single body. Crappie Magnet Baits allow us to fish longer without our
baits tearing.”Blue/Silver Flake. We’ve caught 12 to 15 fish on a single body. Crappie Magnet
