I can’t think of a better way to start the season
than the lesson we just got from one of the hot-
test young guns out there. That would be Parker
Eichwurtzle and his boat captain
Jason Eichwurtzle. Not only did
this big man blow us out of the
water with over 11 pounds for
the tournament win, but also
took the Big Fish prize and the
Academy Sports Top Youth An-
gler Award! With Parker’s talent
for snipping big fish and Jason’s
knowledge for where to find
them, I think we may be in for a
show this season. All of us veter-
ans better step up our game, or
we going get left behind in their
dust!
I know the new rules have
been stressful for some teams. Thank you for
being patient as we get started with this new pro-
cess. It will get smoother as we go along through
the season. I wanted to share some things I
noticed while checking fish that might help you.
Some of you were very close to losing some of
your big fish.
The big thing I noticed is the water tempera-

ture. Most of the fish that was BARELY hanging
on to life was in HOT water. When it is hot or
warm outside, be sure to start your day out with
your live well water cold and keep it cool
throughout the day. Put a cooler in your
boat with bags of ice in it. When you fill
your live well up, put one bag of ice in
and some G-Juice. Add a little ice if need-
ed throughout the day if it starts to get
warm.
Do not put too many fish in your live
well. Once you get a good stringer, start
culling and put the smaller fish that you
will not weigh in the cooler of ice or throw
them back. I try not to keep more than 10
in my live well.
Be sure to have a bubbler or some-
thing pumping air in your container while
waiting to get your fish checked. We will
do our best to check them as quickly as possible,
but sometimes there may be a wait.
Next up we are headed to Grenada Lake. The
Grenada Lake Tournament should be a great tour-
nament as we transition into that wonderful Fall
Fishing season.
